Thanks a lot for all the input, everyone. Special thanks to Pierre to be so honest on his product. Not something you would expect from a normal salesman, err.. distributor. Seriously, that just goes to show you the dedication of everyone here at CF to get the job done, correctly, not to just plug your product to make a buck. Going out of town, so I can't pick up the bumpers this week. Will have to wait a while longer. Will let you all know how it turns out. Thanks again for the input.

I *so* wish I could afford those bumpers right now!
I would drop those 550 smackers in a heartbeat...well, if I had the smackers right now. Probably a month or two away. :-( Doh! "...The prices are very good, they ship from Kentucky and Cfers get 10% off. Also, i just saw the other day that they were running a special: a pair each of 10's, 15s, 25s, 35s and 45s for $550 shipped to anywhere. Not a bad deal if your not picky about having kilos. |

Who uses 15# bumpers?!? Just curious...
A pair of 10#, 25#, and 45# is all you need most of the time (use metal discs for small change; as the weights you use get heavier, add more 45#'s). From Hi-Temp, they will run you $0.92/lb plus shipping. If you have a burning desire to get a pair of 35# plates or 55# (25 kilo) plates, by all means do so, but the most used bumper plates are going to be the 45's, followed by the 25's, followed by the 10's, at least for WOD purposes. For max effort Oly attempts the 35's become useful too (and the 10's less so). Hi-Temp: pair of 10 + 25 + 45 @0.92/lb: $147 + s/h (~$95?) pair of 10 + 25 + 35 + 45: $239 + s/h ($120 or so) I hope this puts the $550 shipped into perspective. It's not *that* great afterall. I just happen to like Hi-Temp and their people, because they gave me very good service. I also own a pair of 25kg old-style Kraiburg plates. They Kraiburgs are great as a stool and for ME DL's when I put most every bumper plate I own onto the bar. All the rest of the time I just use the Hi-Temp bumpers. A pair of 10#'s is nice when the WOD calls for a 65lb something-or-other. Plus I like the idea of keeping old tires out of landfills. And I've used plenty of ancient York composition plates that were going strong after 20+ years. I just called Hi-Temp and asked for a quote, and 15 minutes later, they got it to me. I highly recommend them for their service. http://www.hitemp.biz/ (just call them directly) If you also want a pair of the Kraiburg 55#s, Jesup Gym in Jesup, Iowa is selling them for $159/pair shipped. They too are stand-up people. However, I think you will be best served by the Hi-Temp bumpers, just from my experience. YMMV, of course. Just some hard numbers for you. Oh, and duh, get the best bar you can afford. |

Since the subject is bumpers, y'all really ought to think about getting bumpers in kilos--kilos make loading and keeping track of poundages so much easier. The only reason I can think of someone wanting bumpers in lbs. is because they want to mix regular and bumper plates.
Yeah, I know that only backward third world nations(such as Germany, almost all of Europe, China, Canada ) use kilos, and that the system of lbs. we use in the U.S. will soon overtake the world, but until then . . . (That last part was a joke, BTW) |

Yeah as a distributer I can get the Hi-Temp bumpers for as low as 0.72 cents per pound with large orders. Most people rather not order such a large quantity but a distributed order going to various places comes with the same result. I haven't really made a cent off these, but that isn't really my intention. Since they are just a darn good product. (yeah I'm weird, my business practices are strange at best) The intent with me is mainly to get really good products into Canada which doesn't happen! Unless you want to get some Eleiko or "some" of the York Barbell stuff.
Chuck, Susan and the rest of the bunch there at Hi-Temp are just good people, I like dealing with them though they would be happier to deal with me if I made large orders. Hehe tis life! (Message edited by brutebsd on July 20, 2006) |

hmmm, seems to me that price per pound is the basis to measure what you get with either bumpers or metal plates. Kg or lbs seems to a personal preference and after all you just wanna move total weight in the end?
Let's see who comes out the best from the above. * Rubberman: $500/260lbs = $2.11/lb * Hi-Temp: $0.92/lb * Kraiburg (Jesup Gym): $1.44/lb I ordered kg (personal preference) plates from Karl at Gill's for $0.67/lb with the CF discount. The bar was $108.00 and shipping $75.00 to Vegas. One drawback: No 10kg plates right now, only 15kg. When they have them I'll go back again to get them. Thanks CF and to Karl, I apppreciate it. |

Personally, I'm not particularly concerned with LB vs. KG plates, and I can see where 15's would be useful (for me).
Does the rubberman's deal include shipping and handling? I was assuming it did -- in which case their price per pound is more competitive with the others to which it was compared. I know a similar order from another supplier charged around $165 for shipping close to the same weight. Assuming (roughly) $165 of that $550 is shipping cost, that would put the Rubberman's deal at closer to $1.48/pound -- still higher than the hi-temp, but much closer to the kraiburg. Anyway, Hi-temp sounds great -- I'll file that away Pierre for when I'm ready to order my plates... (Message edited by edge on July 21, 2006) |

Bryan the rubber man are kraiburgs arent they? for me direct from Hi-Temp 260lb set for $319 or the rubbermans kraiburg for 500 makes the rubberman not even comparable as far as bang for the buck, i will have to call karl about his plates i didnt know they were that cheap, can anyone compare gills plates to the H-Temps?

I dunno -- the more I try to sort it out the more confused I get. I'll wait and see who the bottom-line best deal is. As long as they aren't junk plates, I'm all for low cost. :-)
