Slam ball!

Well, I made 4 slammers in about 2 hours and tested them today in camp.
One mistake - I forced extra sand in my jr. Ball - reversed the shop vac and blew it in.
I think there needs to be some space to absorb the shock cause that one broke. Of course it could have been the cheap ball also.

The other 3 held up fine and I'm going to make a ton more!

Target sells 'target brand' basketb, fballs, soccer balls for $3.50 a pop!
They are in an end isle bin, the BB are either all black, blue or yellow - the few I made filled from 21-23lbs.
They seem pretty durable, so far so good.

Awesome information Jerry. Where did you find the shoe goo? After all the floods down here in DC we had a lot of sand come up out of Rock Creek so I got my sand for free! I just hate paying for dirt!

Jen,
Bought mine at Modell’s Sporting good store, $4.

Make sure the sand is dry and fine.
I bought $4 silica playground sand from toys-r-us. My 3 year old daughter was with me...the next day she kept asking where her new sand was - had to go out and buy a couple 100lb's more!

I followed Pierre's directions to the T.
It took an hour for 2 balls, even got to enjoy a few beers and a cigar. I have 6 all-together!

Get it done, you will love it!

Just read all the posts - awesome, I think I'll start making my own! However, right now I have 2 split D-balls, any ideas on fixing 'em?

I'm sure someone would have posted this up if there was a solution to your problem. I remember reading that there is a warranty if it is not split at the plug.

Shoo-goo works wonders but have never seen a real D-ball...

Be careful with the generic Target brand b balls. When I made 5 slam balls a few months ago I got 4 generic and 1 good 'Spaulding' street ball.

3 of the generic ones burst doing slams. I kept adjusting the pressure inside trying less and more air, but they all broke. Now I only do slams with the good one. No problems yet.

Hey Jeremy yeah I noticed some of the much cheaper generic balls are junk. BUT there is still hope, in the updated manual I note that the Huffy sports cheapos are as good as any of the more expensive balls. They are really quite thick and heavy! Not so great for B-Ball but great for slam balls.
