Hi!

I'm looking to buy a basic oly lift set (bar, collars, and rubber bumpers). I want rubber bumpers because I'll probably be lifting in my garage without matting.

Any idea what is the most affordable way for me to do this? I found a rubber bumper set on BFS for $500, although it doesn't include the bar or collars. That seems way cheaper than the York stuff.

Any advice? I'm sure this has been asked a bunch of times, thanks for your patience!

-Vik

Gill has the best prices (you get a 20% discount if you mention CF to Karl Geisler at Gill) on most items and has rubber bumpers in kilos. They are not the regular thick black bumpers, though. A little different but mine seem very durable. If you want the regular thick black bumpers, you should go to Pierre Auge's (sp?) website. He posts a lot on this board and he offers pretty good deals on Hi-Temp bumper packages. You'll still need a bar. Many to choose from, but you won't beat the prices at Gill. I picked up cheapo "Gold Gym" spring-loaded collars at Wal-Mart. Works fine for me.

I recently got a set of CAP bumpers and am really happy with them, especially given the price.

I'm in Canada, but I know others from the US have posted and have them. Check them out.

I wouldn't use any bumpers directly on your concrete floor though. Get at least one stall mat, cut it down the middle and make two strips that you can drop on. It will extend the life of your bumpers significantly.

Give Scott Tully at BS Olympic a call. He set me up with a needle bearing bar by York along with a set of York bumpers. He also offers a discount to Crossfitters.

Try Gill Athletics and maybe give BFS a call and see if they have any discounts/specials. I'm going with Gill I think for my kettlebells and I got a great bar from BFS. It was an overstock or something and they let me have it for like 30% off. Wish I'd ordered two...
