What's the consensus on a good climbing rope? I know this topic has been beat on before, but with the Pacific Fiber failures at CFHQ, and the comments that the West Marine ropes are too slick to climb, from whom shold I purchase my rope?

Gracias

Bryan,
I got mine from the local rope and cable supplier here in Cincinnati. They're not the easiest companies to find, it took some digging. They seem to have all the business they need.

Where are you located?

Do a search for manila rope and then you can order any diameter and length you want.

I just ordered ropes (with and without knots) and cargo net from Jammar Mfg. Prices were reasonable and a wide selection of products. This is the company that made the cargo nets, etc. for "American Gladiator." www.jammarmfg.com

I have ZERO rope climbing experience. Would you recommend getting knots in the rope?

Bryan, the first thing I noticed when I got a rope was how much it taxed your grip (significantly more than a pullup bar). It didn't take long though before we were used to it. Get one or make one. They're excellent.

Here's an article for homemade rope. I forget where I got it (perhaps from this board).

I just got my West Marine rope. With knots and using the 1.5 inch rope I don't see where you'd have a problem. He gives a discount to CF members.

I think the slippery problem comes with the other rope they sell which has far fewer strands (and is cheaper).
