I was at Lowe's yesterday buying PVC for parallettes and thought I might as well buy some tow straps and make some rings. Everything I can find with a load limit over 100lbs has a rachet system; no buckles. I tried all the hardware stores, auto stores, REI; I'm flumoxed. You'd think a simple metal triple-pass buckle wouldn't be that hard to find in a major metropolis. In this town, you'd be wrong. Any ideas? BTW, I haven't had a chance to try it yet but my idea was to thread the strap through the PVC and out through a 1" metal ring. The idea was to have full strength and not much bulk, knots, tape, etc. Anyone tried anything like that?

John, I looked for D-rings but ended up going with brass curtain rings. Tie two of them tigtly together with a knot at one end then pass the free end through and back on itself. If the strap you have is a bit soft then a quick lock knot is also recommended.
Cheers, kempie Hope this helps |

John, are you talking about the cam-buckle style tie-downs? If so, I'd check at a motorcycle dealershipo. They usually carry this style as well as ratcheting. I'd recommend Ancra brand. You'll find plenty of places selling them online as well. Chris

I got mine at an Ace hardware store....all the department stores had were the racheting types, but the smaller hardware stores should have what you need.
