Which glute-ham developer to buy? - Page 2

Someone not too long ago posted in a thread a pic of a makeshift GHD for sit ups, he used metal pipes to make two T shaped leg holders, or whatever you want to call them, and attacked them to the wall and used a swiss ball to rest his hips on. Would this be good enough for going GHD sit ups?

John,

I bought that model by Yukon. I don't know if it was from the same place but it fit my budget also. $220 shipping included. I woundn't recommend it to anyone who is really tall or heavy. I'm 5'11 and around 165 so it fits me just fine. The first WOD I used it on for GHD situps had my abs sore for about 4 days. The pad is really hard but is softening up with use. It fullfills its intended function and mine was well made. A good deal where budgets are limited for sure.

Am I reading that the NY Barbell GHD is only 299, with free shipping? That doesn't seem too bad.

On the yukon version can the posts sticking out from the seat be used for dips if yor legs were bent 90 degrees? Or are they not solid enough for the weight? GHD will be my next purchase and that one looks pretty good. How long have you had it and how well is it holding up?

Yeah, the NY Barbells GHD is priced in the $250-300 range with shipping. I got one for $280 earlier this year so $299 doesn't sound wrong.

I have been perfectly happy with it aside from a few small nits (like 2 bolts not being long enough, easy to fix at your local home depot for less than $1, and one hole being drilled through the steel at the wrong place (again, easily fixed but if you don't have the right drill bit you'd have to buy one for more than $1). But other than that, for the price, IMO you can't beat it.

The adjustment mechanism is pretty basic, just two steel pieces, one sliding inside of the other, with a steel lockout pin and two screws (one on top one on side) that you screw to tighten once you find the right adjustment. The seat cushion is pretty nice (firm, seems to be lasting well). The rollers are your basic foam rollers, with *no* leather so they will break down from repeated use of shoe laces rubbing against them (mine are). But I'd estimate the foam will last a few years (I use it every day) at which point I'd replace them with replacement $5 rollers.
