Jason:
Check out this link, you can improvise with just a barbell: http://www.kvusa.com/wl/floorghr.htm For what they charge for that "poor man's" piece of equipment you can purchase a full glute/ham machine at NY Barbell (and their price includes shipping) and have money left over: http://www.newyorkbarbells.tv/82626.html NY Barbell has great prices and great service. The last piece of equipement I purchased had a missing a bolt. I called them up and it came the next day - by FEDEX. Marc |

Some folks do that by teaming people up, one guy holds the other's ankles. Haven't tried it myself.

YOu can do it with a person, or just hook your feet under a sofa. You can start by putting your hands in a push up postion to "catch" yourself on the way down (to avoid unsightly face plants)and give a little boost on the way up, very hard drill.
To do the remedial version, get in the up position and simply bend at the waist, keeping a flat back, and slowly touch your forehead to the floor. basically a BW good morning. I have the NYbarbell one Lincoln mentioned which you can also do some evil situps on. |

The GHR I had made for me locally has the wrong kind of pad to really do good, comfortable GHRs on it, and it's also too small to work the abdominals. I've to to get that taken care of.
The NYB GHR's pads look workable. |

This is pretty sweet... it functions as two machines in one:

I know that some of the equipment we purchase can be pricey (oly bars, bumpers, GHR) - but, I highly suggest going for the quality GHR even if it costs a bit more - if you wanna save, go to www.elitefts.com and purchase their home model -
for example, I was considering purchasing other kettlebells (other than DD) - i was at a seminar and used a pair not from DD, not sure where from - and they were super smooth and slippery - scarey!! they seemed to be coated in a glob of paint - felt pretty unsafe - I realized it always pays to go the extra buck to get the quality equipment - esepcially for us crossfitters who are minimalists with regards to the equipment we need.....just my .02 all the best :-) |
