Hi everybody. I read through all of these posts to make my own rings. I made a blog post about it with pictures and detail. I hope it's helpful.

Re: Poorman's Rings
I couldn't figure out how to edit my post above this one. I added another picture based on a commenter's request. If you'd like to see more pictures or anything like that, let me know. I hope it's helpful.

Re: Poorman's Rings
Made a set today. Total outlay <$7.
~$4 for the lashing straps at Harbor Freight Tools. http://www.harborfreight.com/set-of-...aps-67386.html ~$3 for the 5' Sch 40, 1" diam PVC pipe at Lowe's. http://www.lowes.com/pd_23977-1814-P...14_4294937087_ Cut my PVC @ 21", wish I'd used 22" or so, now. But these are perfectly functional. Edit: If you're impatient and don't want to (or can't) hold the ring around your paint can, weight, etc. for 5 minutes, hold it tight around the object while having a friend/spouse/child pour cold water all over the PVC pipe. Two big glasses of water and it's set in <1 min. |

Re: Poorman's Rings
This thread is awesome...
I've started mass producing these rings. There are no dents/kinks in them and they are nice and round (not flat). They are amazing. Working on my Muscle-ups and Ring Dips. ![]() |

Re: Poorman's Rings
Hey guys, I'm new to this site and this is my first post. These rings are sick and I've made them my summer project. I opted to use mountain climbing webbing instead. What i did was used about 0.75 m to thread through the rings and then tied the ends together with a beer knot. Then I tied a 3m length of webbing around the beer knot using a double figure eight knot. This 3 m length has alpine butterfly knots every 0.5-ish meter and there is a caribiner attached to the end of the 3 m length. This way I can adjust the length of the rings by clipping the biner at different butterfly knots. Altogether it was around $25. It's also much safer and longer lasting than using tie-downs or lashing straps. Let me know what you guys think.
ps. the knots are all on wiki |

Re: Poorman's Rings
Thanks everyone, I made a set and mounted them on the floor-joists in my basement. It cost about $25 and took several hours, including the trip to the hardware store. The third pic shows how I mounted the straps. I'll have to watch to make sure I don't eventually wear through the straps.
