I bought 10 16 pound bowling balls at a yard sale for $5. Anyone have any ideas what I can do with them? (Not bowling). When I bought them I couldn't pass up 160 pounds of weights for $5, and I was thinking of using them for weight training, throwing, etc. or other "dinosaur" type training. Anyone know how to make a kettlebell out of a bowling ball? Any other ideas? Help me out, my wife thinks I'm nuts for buying 10 bowling balls when we don't bowl.

Bob,
Fill a wheelbarrow with them and go for a hike. While on the hike, you could use them as a shotput/medicine ball for throws in the grass Put one in a strong bowling/small duffle bag and use as a kettlebell. I think you could drill two holes through them and attatch a strong rope with a thick hose (as the handle) for a kettlebell. You could also use long bolts and a strong handle. Look at Lowes. Drill a 1" hole through all of them and insert a long solid steel bar, making a 160 lb. crazy barbell. If I did that, I'd have to paint them all black with 1000 lbs. on it for laughs. You could probably make a few dumbells in the same way. Either way, use strong collars for safety. Get a large duffle bag and throw them in and drag/lift it. You might also want to add stuffing like old shirts/towels/etc. for safety. I have to think a little more, I'll get back to this later. Dave |

Boloes. You could catch big cows with them.
Paint them and play Bocce Ball. Hooverball. Watch your head! I personally use an 18 lb. bowling ball for shotput (really, stone put) practice. |

Bob,
I wanted to point out that we're not necessarily disagreeing with your wife. Come to think of it, why don't you put the bowling balls in the potato sack? |

How bout taking em to the bowling alley and practicing your fast ball?
Get some sturdy canvas and make a little bag with a handle to immitate a kettlebell (kind of light though - might lose control and knock an eye out). Try holding an arm out in front of you while you "palm" (Mike Jordan style) the ball for 60 seconds. Grind one up and eat it with some low fat cottage cheese or toss it in a salad. Try to knock and entire 1 story house down with just bowling balls. |
