Three of us at Brand X test ran this last weekend. We started the first 5 rounds with overhead squats but switched to back squats as impending injury was looming.
Total rounds in 40 minutes = 29 |

Happy Halloween--this is scarier than any haunted house...
We ran one similar to this a week or two ago with dumbbells and pullups: Deadlifts, HSC, Push Press, Front Squat 5 reps each (20 total), 4 pullups; 4 reps each, 8 pullups; 3 reps each, 12 pullups; 2 reps each, 16 pullups; 1 rep each, 20 pullups. Pretty much sucked, and it only lasted 8 or 10 minutes. (Message edited by ksu4 on October 31, 2006) |

19 rounds in 40 minutes, 75# because of mis-read. Solo effort. Hats-off to the "Brand-X Three" Jeff. This one is a genuine gut-check. Tried to pace 1 round every 2 minutes. Discomfort at 10 minutes, distress at 20 minutes.
Being able to work out alone is important to long-term continuity of training efforts. I need to get better at it, because after minute 20 it started getting easy to rest longer. I imagine that a motivated training partner or competitor would raise those numbers. |

For the Brand X crew, I didn't see the scaled version of this at your site. 55 or 60 lbs for those of us that usually run with the pack or just suck it up and push on with 70?

Michael,
It will go up today. Sorry for the delay. Alex, I was priviliged to workout this time with two of my closest friends; but for the most part I do the Painstorms alone. Connor likes to compete with the class so even he abandons me. So I know how you feel. Painstorm has been a bone of contention for awhile. Why do them? What do you get out of it? I have been a huge advocate, and had some very passionate arguments regarding the benefits of these long hauls. I have even made an empassioned argument that we should add an 11th variable, Mental Toughness, to the Crossfit definition of fitness. These long hauls peg the suck meter. Occasionally forcing yourself to do them increases the meters range. Doing them alone and forcing the meter into the red without outside support is commendable and you will find worthwhile. Remember to post your scores on the affiliates page as well. Thanks. http://www.crossfit.com/cf-affiliates (Message edited by Jeff_m on November 02, 2006) (Message edited by Jeff_m on November 02, 2006) |
