I live in jacksonville, fl and I am planning on doing one/some of the local tri's. Has anyone done these and have you found any special training needed for them. I have been doing WOD for 3 months, sometimes modified, and I run quite a bit. Just seeing if anyone had any pointers.

Basically they are triathlons, that are much shorter than the ironman or olympic. They typicaly are around .25 mile swim, 10-18 mile bike, 3.1 mile run.

Hmmm....that's something I could do. I don't have the time to train for a bigger tri, but a short one like that would still be taxing and put me in excellent shape, but it would be something I could pull off.

Got any links to your local tris?

Thanks

Scott,

Check this out: http://www.interondesign.com/landsha...04calendar.htm

Believe it or not, I did a Sprint Triathlon a number of years ago. They're not hard to finish.

Trey,

I've done two sprint triathlons. The first time I trained for 2 months using a triathlon-specific program http://www.trinewbies.com/1TPbegSp.htm. It helped, but it was kind of a waste because..get this. The next triathlon I cut 10 minutes off my time and but only did triathlon-specific training 4 days prior to the event. CrossFit did the rest. If I was to do it again, I would just practice swimming for a week prior.

not being the strongest swimmer in the world(a coworker who was competitive collegiate swimmer said he never saw anyone sink in a wetsuit until I demonstrated the technique)i prefer Balance Bar Adventure sprints. go to Balancebar.com. these are a blast, covering about 20 miles of running, mtn. biking, kayaking, and mystery events. try it, you'll like it. need two other people for the sprints, teams of 3. water sections are short and require pfd.
