Robb,
This is no small fete. Estimate the percent of the population, athletic or otherwise that can match this and then weigh that against the utterly perfect functionality of the movement (it has tactical and mechanical functionality) and what you we see is that you are a stud. Congrat's Coach |

LOL!! Thanks Coach! Beyond the functionality I have gained with crossfit the training is just fun...once the dry heaves have stopped!

Watch out Robb! I just nailed my first muscle up, so I'm coming after you!
It was pretty cool too. After gymnastics class, I jumped up and grabbed onto the rings. I actually had to do half a pullup and hold it there for a second to secure my false grip. I wasn't actually planning on doing a muscle-up, but I figured why not? Up I went, no kipping or anything. I was a little off-center, I think the right side came up a bit ahead of the left. What messed me up before was trying to be explosive on the pullup portion. I ended up dropping down a bit after the initial explosion. In the transition phase, I don't think there is any stretch reflex to take advantage of, so the rebound does not help. Today I ground it out the whole way and it was much easier. Best of all, there were plenty of girls around to witness it:-) |

Right on!!! Down the road to greatness!!! I find that if I can get a bit of explosiveness on the pullup I transition better....you do have some different leverage considerations being taller and what not. Whatever the case congratS!!!

I just managed my first muscle up today or should I say four! I have been trying for months to nail the muscle up using a home made set of material rings in my garage but without success, I just could not make the transition. Even trying ever trick mentioned in the Crossfit Journal (excellent publication!) and using the image of the lady showing the false grip as a guide I still coud not get it. Then today I took my daughter to a park and noticed some metal rings on a climbing frame and decided to give it ago. I was blown away when I managed not one, but four muscle ups, although the rings played havoc with my wrists (small price to pay). I think it was just a case of everything coming together and the extra support provide by the metal rings, which is obviously missing from my own. Thanks again Coach for not only indirectly setting me a goal but providing me the motivation, knowledge and persistance to achieve it. What makes it so much sweeter is that I managed to achieve it after the WOD, armstrong program and some fartlek training.:proud:
