A Mile of Muscle Ups/ Birthday Challenge

about 20 yrs ago @ the age of 40 I remember doing 40 pullups in three sets & feeling pretty good about it Well things have changed since crossfit,& now thats not much of a birthday challenge so this year I decided on a mile of MUs .It naturally took a while ,I figure than I move 4 vertical feet for each MU..from below to above the rings @ the top of the lock out..So 5280 divided by 4 equals 1320 total MUs all done as multiples in mini sets of 3 or 5 for a total of 20 daily for66 days so this past Tues I finished my MU mile all about 3 weeks before my 62nd birthday
..What's your birthday challenge?

Congrat, David! Pretty amazing.

My challenge usually involves dodging tequilla shots.

Hmm... I much prefer this birthday challenge!

Edit: My actual birthday challenge is a trail run on the Pacific Coast trail, 1 mile for every year. This August I will be running 30 miles.

Damn, that's impressive consistency there.

Perhaps manna for me?

Re: A Mile of Muscle Ups/ Birthday Challenge

Wow, impressive motivation! I knew a coach who would always do an iron Cross for his birthday, and did one every year until he was about 50. the only reason he stopped was because he had a shoulder injury.

As for birthday goals, I've never had any challenges to give myself, but now you have me thinking of some and when I do I'll be sure to post.

P.S. Happy early birthday!

Re: A Mile of Muscle Ups/ Birthday Challenge

David, that shows some true grit. Congratulations. So, what can we learn from your experience. Did it get easier as you passed the half mile mark? Did you have to space them out over the day or did you do them all in the morning before breakfast? No shoulder complaints? Did you kip them all or could you, in the end, just do them without kipping?
You already know about my birthday goals (30 sec. free HS, 10 sec. BL and FL hold before I turn 70 next year). I already got my FL hold. Next month is my 69-th b-day and I am aiming to get my 30 sec. free HS. So the BL hold will be for next year, together, I am sure, with some other silly goals.

Re: A Mile of Muscle Ups/ Birthday Challenge

Thanks everyone for the comments.
Frits..I generally did all the MUs in the morning before 7am in 4 groupings of 3&2..total of 20MU daily with as little kipping as possible..I found that 20 per day was not really too bad on my joints..The hardest set was always the first set of the day. After about the 'half mile' mark..discipline & boredom were the main offenders..But now I'm kind of used the work out & will keep going for a while & now realize what a great exercise this is for back, arms & abs.
Frits I really enjoy reading your posts ,keep up the inspiring work & HAPPY BIRTHDAY everyone.
