Plantar fasciitis and squats

I have been struggling with plantar fasciitis for a couple years now. Getting my weight down and using a forefoot strike when running and walking has helped manage it in the past several months. The only problem I'm having is that when I do squats, and logically more so on heavy squats, the pain is really flaring back up. Today on Fran, I found myself putting quite a bit of weight on my toes in the thrusters because it's a light weight and I want to avoid heel pain. However, this can cause another set of problems.
Does anyone have any tips on dealing with plantar fasciitis and squats? It only takes a little bit of weight on the squats and the pain will flare up for the whole day.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Plantar fasciitis and squats

wearing VFF's and switching to dress shoes with no lift in the heal and no arch support at work cured my plantar fasciitis.

Roll your arches on a tennis ball, this helped me out. Can also try a frozen water bottle, this way you get some cold effect as well as the rolling.

Re: Plantar fasciitis and squats

The fascia of the foot sole extends all the way up the calf to the back of the knee. People who suffer PF often find the trigger point is located somewhere in the upper calf, usually right under the back of the knee.
Try foam rolling this area until you find a real tight spot, then work it with a lacrosse ball or some other tool.
Or better yet, go see an ART or skilled trigger point therapist ant they will likely get rid of your pain.
I feel for you, but know that you do not have to live with chronic pain!
