Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I went to the globo gym this weekend to lift some weights (before my membership expires in 2 weeks) and I saw a car pull up and no one got out for about 10 minutes. After they got out they were finishing up their McDonald's and smoking a cigarette before coming in to work out. Nothing like a pre-workout breakfast to get the heart clogged before pumping some iron.

for the record my lifting shoes are rogue do wins in all black. i always get a kick out of it when people comment on my "fancy shoes"
Mine are fancier. Pendlay 2011's in green. After I snapped the laces pulling them tight to tie them, I modded them with neon green laces to match the striping. Now they are GL pendlays.

I haven't got much kudos for them but 2 ladies ( 1 30ish, 1 40ish towards 50 ) said they were pretty spiffy. Both are National lifters too.

All black is pretty cool though. I was thinking of some with all black and seeing if I could any silver on them. Silver and Black, man.

But that's not the big problem - he grunts and groans and sounds like he's having some serious business time with the girlfriend - on every rep of every exercise.

I wanted a lunk alarm. The guy is a black hole that sucks all the awesome out of the room.
I'm doing reps with 405 on the DL, so I don't think it's impressive (as in, if I can do it, it's not a big deal, I should be doing a LOT more). Especially if he's doing it with straps.

Well, I can do 405 for reps, but I recognize that's way above what most people in the gym can do. It's not amazingly impressive, but it's semi-impressive in a "that requires some decent strength, straps or no" way.

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I can do 405 for 2 reps without passing out or soiling myself.

Thanks! I've still got a long way to go still, but happy to see progress. It's nice lifting old 1RMs for reps

True. I stand corrected.

I do get really happy whenever I see people squatting to full depth or pulling DLs off the floor, regardless of weight. Too bad I don't see it as often in my gym

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I continue to marvel at the activity level of this thread (# of replies and views) and how long it has carried on.

When I first started the thread, I was afraid that I would come off as a total snob for what I wrote, and so I nearly didn't make the post.

Over 7,500 posts and 1.7M (!) views later, it's still going strong. Love it.

I can sense the smug from here. But, congratulations.

Another site I post on has had a series of "Gym Idiots" threads (each thread is locked after 1,000 posts). I believe we're on our 7th or 8th now.

Also, I went to a gym the other day. The 7-foot Olympic bars there had hexagonal centers. It was weird. Didn't feel good for deadlifts, so I pilfered one from a decline bench to use.
