Why CrossFit?

I know why I do it but if someone was wondering why they should do CrossFit over just going to a globo gym what would you tell them.

bahahaha - very true.

Results is the answer. Ask them why they haven't succeeded at the globo gym yet? The CF environment sets them up for success. It is a totally different experience - just remember that it's not for everyone, don't try to push people into it just because you know it's great.

Haha awesome.

I'd add to the initial list with - it gets you in way better shape than you thought you previously were in and it's very humbling.

Another one I would add is it gets you leaner, stronger, and faster quicker than a globo gym and bodybuilding routine would -- this is just personal experience, though...may not be true for everyone.

Edit -- another, more flexible / mobile? Again, just from personal experience.

Re: Why CrossFit?

Thanks guys. The thing I tell people is that out of all the people I know that are showing results, almost all of them are CrossFitters. Not to sound like a jerk but I have friends that have gone to the gym consistently for years and they look the same. That's for numerous reasons though. Diet, crappy workouts, no accountability. All the reasons most people fail are lessened when you join CrossFit.

Those are all great reasons to give to someone interested in CrossFit, but you might find that you will have an easier time closing your prospects (ie having them actually join your affiliate) if you don't just give a cookie cutter list of reasons and instead focus on WHY they want to improve their fitness. CrossFit will be superior to all other exercise paradigms to for the vast majority of clients fitness goals. Find out what they are, and talk about how you can help them get their, faster, safer, with more fun, etc. Find out what resonates with them and show how CrossFit provides that. A big reason I've found a lot of people love going to an affiliate is the chance to turn off their brain and just go in and follow a good coaches instructions and get a solid workout, results over time, safely and with a fun group of people. They don't want to analyze every rep, plan every workout. They just want to come in and have fun getting into great shape.

Re: Why CrossFit?

I agree that asking someone why they are there or looking to make a change is a great start. Some folks might not open up so you could provide examples (community, results, focused approach, goals oriented, etc...).

I will say many folks shy away from the "competitive" aspect that many like myself enjoy. By that I mean I enjoy having folks to challenge myself against day in and day out. When I mention this to some folks they cringe as they don't like the competitive angle and just want a good workout so I would be cautious in speaking about this angle.

With all of that being said, I feel the Community aspect is the best part. I also enjoy not having to concern myself with programming or planning workouts. Of course I think about my goals long term and what the programming means to that but when starting out, it was great to show up, throw down and go home.
