Help with Garage Gym construction.

We should start a thread about construction of a garage gym or affiliate questions. People who are PROFESSIONALS in certian fields who are willing to answer a few questions could say what their profession is and answer questions as asked (within reason). I am an electrical contractor and licensed master electrician in Colorado and Wyoming. I would be willing to answer questions about that field. I soon want to teach myself how to weld. It would be nice to ask a welder a few questions when the time comes. The same with a framer and or a structural engineer. Maybe it is a dumb idea but... why not. We are not out anything and it might be fun to help people in thier quest to greater fitness.

I'm a weldor. I've done all kinds of stuff from sheet metal lawn mower decks to 4" thick, back gouged columns buried in the Michigan Stadium expansion.

I have made a lot of my own equipment, did all my own mdifications to the garage. Including removal of rafters, added a flying pull up bar system. I think the only pieces of equipment I procured as new are my York Ultra-lites and Ab-mats almost forgot stall mats. Traded services for things like fabrication & graphic arts.

If you are on a budget I think I can help. Much of what I have done has been found on here and the Journal, some I changed or what I think was an upgrade to an exsisting idea.

Well, I will chip in here as well.

I have a Mechanical Engineering degree (also an Electrical Engineering degree and a Math degree, but I don't think those will help much ) and grew up in the construction industry. I did all of the engineering and design (and build) of my house. I can help with structural calculations regarding the building and load. I am also kind of a dork about mechanical design of equipment (as is probably pretty obvious by now ). The only caveat is that I can't do anything "officially" as (i) I don't want to accrue any legal liability, and (ii) I took the EIT exam and did all of the work, but then went on to become a professor in a different area, so I never finished my PE process.

My professional life is as a Professor of Information, Risk, and Operations Management. So, I do an awful lot of research and work around supply chains, decision-making in the face of risk, and manufacturing.

I will be happy to help in any of these venues.
