Door Frame Pull-Up Bars

Is it just me, or do these things seem to force you to use a more narrow grip unless you like hitting your forearms against the door frame.

yes... door sizes tend to be standard. Work on your dead hang.

Yeah, it's pretty much my only option (unless I want to cut out funny arm/elbow-shaped holes in the door frame).

Is there another alternative to the Pull-Up Stud Bar? I don't have any wall space that I'd be comfortable in mounting it against, but I do have a massive support beam that goes across my workout room (top section is not accessible to do support-beam pull-ups.) I remember in the movie I Am Legend with Will Smith, he was using some kind of pull-up bar that was fixed to a support beam. It had a good amount of various handles/handholds that you could use to do various pull-ups and chin-ups. That would work in my place, although I have no idea what its called.

Re: Door Frame Pull-Up Bars

I just put a pullup bar up in my garage using 3" galvanized pipe and flanges from Lowes. It runs under a big support beam and is between the two posts that hold it up.
Total cost was about $50, and it's rock solid.

After seeing this site (WFS): http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/shenand...odyweight.html

and seeing the various standing pull-up bars made, I might as well go make one of my own. Sure would beat knocking my elbows on the door frame.
