I have been really intrigued by some of the gear and equipment that some people have made for their gyms. I thought it might be interesting to have a forum topic that dealt with creating your own gear. It would be an area where Crossfitters could discuss materials, design specs, assembly and cost/savings.

I guess what I'm saying is that there is stuff scattered all over the CF forum and across the internet. It would be nice to have one spot to put therm.

Cool! How much does it weigh and how's it holding up? See, I think Home made equipment should be its own forum topic heading. There's a lot of creative ideas out there!

The bag came out to 11 lbs.
Way too light for me but great for a beginner to use.
I need to start experimenting with different sands and fillers to find the right combination for the different weights.
The bag has held up well and since its rubber I have used it for slamming into the ground as well.
The one problem with it is that the rubber smells bad (like bad eggs) and takes time and or use to air out.
Some people on the internet have suggested encasing it in denim (like a leg from a pair of jeans) before taping the handles.
This will keep it from smelling and wearing out too quickly.

I do too. I've been there 2x since the post and have only scratched the surface of the information he has on there. Lots of good stuff.

Awsome! I also like the "a few hours in the sun making sawdust and you can have your own GHD." phrase.

It looks very sturdy but I may make the foot rig so that it supports the legs at the ankles. I wouldn't want my feet to slip.
