Back Squat Form Check

Hi all,
Was hoping someone could take a look at my video and let me know how I'm doing with my squat technique. Any and all feedback would be very much appreciated. Here is the link:

Thanks for your time and consideration!

Re: Back Squat Form Check

Steve,

Good back extension and big chest.

A few problems I noted:

Keep your chin/head aligned with your spine. Don't look up. Imagine you have a tennis ball under your chin that you are trying to keep there.

This will help with the second problem: you're leading with the chest instead of driving your a** up out of the bottom. You're killing your hip drive by trying to lift the chest too soon.

Depth looks at least 2"-3" short to me.

Your camera angle didn't show what your knees are doing, stance width, etc. It does look like they stop forward movement as you descend, which is good. Make sure you push them out and keep them aligned over your feet.

Scott,
Thanks so much for the input, I really appreciate it! Good thought about the tennis ball under the chin. Does anyone actually ever do that? Seems like it would be a good way to get used to the head position.

Thanks again,
Steve

I think for most people, its sufficient to just imagine the tennis ball. Depends on how in-grained the bad habit is.

Also, in reference to your legs and knees, you might try to get another vid with a view of your knee and foot positioning (preferably just a wider angle) for critique.

^^^^

all that plus the knee came in a bit on the last rep at least. Wrists should be straight.

Re: Back Squat Form Check

I would say to sit more back and down, as opposed to just straight down. The first few inches of down come from sending the hips back, not bending the knees. Load them hammies.
