I just read a book attempting to bridge the gap between biology and current, quantum-dynamic based physical models, and a current model being bandied about is the body as a macroscopic system characterized by phenomena traditionally associated exclusively with quantum level events, such as non-locality, and "entanglement".

The net was that the body appears to be kept in dynamic equilibrium through constant, instantanesous feedback loops internally, and potentially even externally (i.e. energetic loops with the physical environment).

An analogy they used was that of a good jazz band which is constantly improvising, and where all the musicians adapt to one another continually and harmonically (maybe not Sun Ra so much).

I'll have to ponder this a bit.

My take on this:

Spinning: US cheesy techno scene

Running: Easy Listening, Radio Pop...

Pilates: Britpop

Tae-Bo: Yanni

Standard gym program (aerobics, machines, curls): Britney Spears pop

Bodybuilding: Boy bands

Gymnastics: definitely Prog Rock

Powerlifting: AC/DC

Crossfit: It has no genre. Its parallel is found in particular artists that display unique qualities in each and every genre. It's the Fiona Apple or Peter Gabriel of Pop. It's the Led Zepellin and the Stones of Rock. It's Miles Davis, Vivaldi, and Metallica all at once.
