Double Unders

I am new to Cross Fit, only about 2 months now. i have always been somewhat atheltic for a bigger guy (6,2 255lbs). I cannot do a double under to save my life, is this something i will eventually get, or due to my size will this always be an issue?

Re: Double Unders

Off topic, but I just noticed you live in Panama City... I lived in the Destin area for like 12 years... I sure do miss it.

Re: Double Unders

Just jump as high as you can to give yourself time to perform two revolutions

Re: Double Unders

I saw a video on youtube in which Dan Bailey gives tips on double unders and it has helped me a lot. I used not be able to do them but now I have no problems.

Re: Double Unders

I started Crossfit in early 2011, and honestly have been trying double unders since then. Thru poor coaching, and bad instruction I developed bad habits, and pretty much just wrote the movement off.

I just deployed in October of 2013, and had someone tell me just simply pick up my feet more, and this helped. Slowly started with 5 singles, 1 DU, cut that down to 3 singles, 1 DU, 2 singles 1 DU, and I was stuck there for a while, and it was frustrating. This was over a 4 month period. Finally after a couple week break I started busting out strings of 5/10/20.

After 4.5 months of targeting them as a weakness I can honestly I have them down, and have used them in a WOD. Nothing short of persistance, and frustration along the way got me there.

Re: Double Unders

There are really no magic tricks for double unders. Its all about practice. Set up a mat in your garage and practice every morning or evening. Double unders are frustrating but practicing is the only way to get better. I have never seen anyone go from not boeing able to do one, to doing 50 unbroken, without lots of practice.
