Let me introduce myself by saying that i have been reading these forums for some time and training with kettlebells. My girlfriend and I have decided to focus on Crossfit as the intense competitive style of workouts is something that we yearn for and the results speak for themselves.

My girlfriend after 2 WOD's with pullups is worried she will have "mens hands"! Not such a bother for me but enough for her to ask me to seek answers and advice from Crossfit girls!

Ladies - how do you keep your hands nice? Or do you all have blokes hands?

my hands are calloused. I file them down as needed to reduce rips, but they still do sometimes. If she's not a hand model, who really cares? Richard, if you do, then she should dump you for someone who doesn't. :D j/k.

Here is a thought. Today's models go down to extremely low bodyfat and still have stick-like arms. Today's idea of "pretty" is likely different from long ago when women might have had to work hard.

So what she considers pretty may be partly a different interpretation of pretty as defined by the tendency of women nowadays to push extremely light weights to avoid gaining muscle.

That she is doing Crossfit indicates that she is not a casualty of the war on muscle, and that is good. Perhaps she will just have to stop considering calloused hands as "men's hands." I would not be surprised if, when she gets calloused hands, she begins to accept them as still feminine.

This is not to say that she can't file down callouses, of course. It has been talked about on these boards and there is an article on beastskills.com regarding that.

Oh yeah, and Veronica, haven't you ever heard of the results of rubbing salt in wounds before? :sorry:

(Course you know what I really mean is more like :haha:)

It's pretty inevitable that her hands will toughen up. But it's best for her to keep the callouses filed down anyway, so they don't rip.

What does that mean--guy hands? I welcome each and everyone of my blisters/callouses. Well maybe not when they are bleeding and nasty! Its a sign of me working hard--striving to acheive accomplish something. Really now--who cares?

Nice rips. :-)

To tell you the truth, I don't care at all if a woman has hands that are "man-like"... in fact, I would prefer man-like over uber-delicate because then at least she would most likely take care of herself physically.

You and Connie really are trying to scare her off, aren't you?

Fortunately, my buddy, Mr. Smiley, has been training for years on how to deal with people like you.

:gunsmilie:

Fear him.

:whip0000:

Or him, your choice.

I'm proud of my callouses. They mean I'm doing something toward my goals of fitness awesomeness.

Keep them filed though. Tears = ouch!
