Skin Tears!!!
I need some serious advice on preventing tears from kipping pull-ups (tape's not doing it)? While I love CROSSFIT the down-time from these tears is frustrating

Re: Skin Tears!!!
While in Afghanistan last summer I tore my hands up horribly doing a post-patrol WOD. This made things difficult as one of the two section c9 gunners. What I ended up doing to battle through this is combine an anti-bacterial cream, a light layer of gauze, a strip of mole skin that would cover all areas in contact with the bar (Or gun) and then made sure that I taped it before every patrol and workout for extra security. I never once had an issue with re-tearing it as it healed. Since you are in the medical field, all of those items will be readily available. Hope this helps.

I posted a quick review of the Rage Leather Hand Grips here: Click Here SFW
They seem to really help and my wife keeps stealing them from me now. |

Start doing more deadlifts with a heavily knurled bar...
And use a poop-ton of chalk..... |

Re: Skin Tears!!!
neoprene gloves work great. you can buy a cheap pair at walmart in the fishing section. they will allow for good grip friction and keep your hands blister free. wet doesn't affect them and they slide on and off in about 5 seconds if you are doing rounds for time with other exercises.

Re: Skin Tears!!!
Get a foot file called a Ped-Egg (easy to find in pink a little harder to find in baby blue, try Bed, Bath and Beyond). Basically a bunch of tiny razor blades designed to remove/thin callouses while not damaging healthy skin. Keep your callouses from getting thick. I file mine twice a week because I'm doing heavy power cleans or dead lifts every week which builds them.
If you still tear do less pull-ups. I torn bad once and then figured out it is not a badge of honor it is just dumb. Only acceptable place to tear is competition. I have only torn once sense then and it was in a weird place while Oly lifting. Take care of your hands. |
