New to Crossfit- Shoe Recommendation

I am in my 2nd month of cross fit and have been using my running shoes during my workouts. I have noticed the toe box on my current shoe is too big because I find my foot sliding around. My question is what would be a good starter shoe for cross fit, I have also been told I need arch support because I have a high arch. I have been looking at the Nano 3.0 and also the Inov-8. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I also don't have any place near me to go and try on these shoes so I'll have to purchase these without trying them on.

Thanks,

John

Adidas Samba or good 'ol Chuck Taylors if you want to keep it simple and inexpensive. If you have money to burn, Reebok Nanos or the Inov-8's.

Search by title for "shoe" or "shoes" in the Equipment forum.

both those you named will work....try to stay away from the flat footed inov8s they may jack your foot up if your not used to having hardly any cushion...but they both are great stability and all around versatility for crossfit

Re: New to Crossfit- Shoe Recommendation

I love my Nike Free Runs. Of course I'm relatively new (few months) of doing CF (this being my first post here and all), so my main problem is the grooves in the bottom are really great at catching the rope for my attempts at double unders. Besides that, they are the best/most comfortable all-purpose workout shoe I've ever had.

Re: New to Crossfit- Shoe Recommendation

I am a minimalist fan. I have used a couple different shoes and always end up back with my new balance minimus. I have the trail version (the link below is WFS) and they are great for all around crossfit workouts, flat with no give on heavy lifts, lightweight for jumps, plenty of tread for climbing. Ive tried on the nanos and dont see why they should be $120 when they dont do anything a half priced minimus doesnt (the link doesnt show the best deal i got mine for $67) , or really many other fitness/oly shoes like the adidas powerlift 2.0 or trainers.

Again Faster is hooking me up with a pair of the Inov8 fastlifts to review so fingers crossed they can dethrone my minimus'.

My black and yellow NB minimus

Re: New to Crossfit- Shoe Recommendation

First of all, Nick nice avatar! ***WOLFPACK!!!***

Second, I'm also relatively new and have been using my Reebok RealFlex shoes. I think they are considered a minimalist shoe. They seem to be working well. If you do try a minimalist shoe, coming from a traditional running shoe, make sure to allow yourself time to adjust to the new shoe style before hitting it too hard. Your foot and leg muslces need time to strengthen or you may end up putting your orthopaedist's kid through college.

Re: New to Crossfit- Shoe Recommendation

I highly recommend getting the Reebok Crossfit specific olympic lifting shoes. You can do anything in them except run and they are far superior for lifting. For days with running, just use your running shoes. I've got Inov-8s, a couple of pair of Nanos (which I love), and way too many running shoes and barefoot shoes. The Reebock oly shoes, because of their hybrid abililty to be used for lifting and most WODs, are by far the most beneficial in Crossfit in my opinion.
