Need help with eating beef.

Well as all people say that are against vegetarians, I am going to start eating meat again. I am not just going to go crazy and eat crappy meat, I am going to be buying grassfed beef from a local farm, 10 miles away, and supplement that with fish that I catch. I am making a shift to a more local approach to my eating. I think that eating cow from 10 miles away with some fresh vegetables from my local farmers market is 100x better than eating some organic vegetarian food that is being shipped to me and takes gallons of gas to get to me. The only problem with this is, I haven't ate meat in 5 years, and I know that there are a few people on this board that switched over and I am wondering if you got sick or anything when you started eating meat again? Also, I am going to re-learn about the different parts of a cow and what is used for what from a great cook, but does anyone have any go to recipes? Thanks for the support.

I would recomend, if you are eating steak, doing it at least medium to start - anything less may gross you out. This is second-hand advice though, I have never been a vegatarian.

Tenderloin is my favorite cut - a little pricier, but sooooooo good!

Re: Need help with eating beef.

I had my first steak about a month ago after 14 years of no beef at all. I was a pesco/lacto/ovo vegetarian. I grilled a ny strip grass fed 12 oz to medium rare and ate the whole thing no issues. Grass fed shouldn't be cooked past med rare due to lower fat content. But that's more up to you. But all people are different I know some past vegetarians that can only handle chicken. So just try different meats and see.
All a good steak needs is salt and pepper. I grill from frozen, indirect heat, flip every 5 min for up to 45 minutes. (instructions from the grass fed farm)

Re: Need help with eating beef.

Starting with Pork and Fish might be more tolerable for you. Plus, pork just plain tastes better.

Re: Need help with eating beef.

I recently started eating meat after 7 years of vegetarianism. It was hard at first, but only for the first few times. My advice is to leave the grass-fed ground beef at a distance for awhile. It's really lean and I couldn't stomach it at first. Try a really good small portion of steak @ medium well and it'll probably go down easier. Also, check this link out.

Hope this helps!

Re: Need help with eating beef.

My girlfriend was raised vegetarian and had never eaten meat in her life until about a year ago. We started her on fish, and we've now moved on to wild boar (long story). We've made no effort to make the transition gradual, and she's had no stomach issues whatsoever.

That website worked excellent! Thanks.

Also I know I should start with a leaner meat, but I am not going to eat fowl or fish unless I kill it. I am starting to go fishing again this weekend, and in fall we are going turkey hunting. Eventually I might go mammal hunting, unsure about that.
