Just finished my first 3 day run of WOD's!

Hey all,

Just started Crossfit and today is my first rest day after 3 days of WOD's. I have been trying to drop weight for a long time now and have plateaued between 200-203. I want to get down to 180-190 but can't break 200. My friend told me about Crossfit. Looking forward to picking your brains!

Hello and welcome to the boards!

CrossFit alone will undoubtedly help you overcome that pesky plateau to some extent, and if you check the Testimonials thread you'll see that it's helped others to achieve the same goal. Almost everyone on this board will tell you to look into starting the Paleo diet if you want to make some serious changes. Combined with CF, I'd say it would be pretty near impossible not to see a major difference in the way you look, feel, and perform. There's loads of info on going Paleo in the Nutrition thread.

I have been CFing for about 6 weeks now (without changing my diet), and the results that I have gotten are astounding. I've achieved more in the past 6 weeks than I have in my 10+ years of active living! My strength and stamina have nearly doubled and in addition to losing a few pounds, I feel much better about myself. Stick with it and I know you'll be glad that you did.

I started CF in August with the goal of getting from 232 to 215 by Christmas.

I think I'm going to make it (218 now), BUT . . . you will soon learn in CF, arbitrary weight loss goals by a given time is counter-intuitive.

First, depending on how hard you work on some of the strength routines, your muscle metabollism, etc. you might very well gain some muscle weight. For me, I would say I have gained a pound of muscle or so for every 4 pounds of fat I've lost.

Bottom line, though, this is a lifestyle and not a linear diet that has a beginning and an end. I have reaped numerous benefits, physical and psychological form this and I feel great. And I feel like if I keep working hard and refining my diet, all the results I want (and more) will come.

I currently just do the WOD's at my work gym. It appears there might be a crossfit affiliate a short drive from me, so when I can better afford it, I will join.

Thanks for the support guys!

Josh, just realized you are in Mount Prospect. Do you go to a CrossFit gym?

To help blaze the trail to your weight and performance goals, head over to Robb Wolf's blog (W/F/S). There you'll learn all about the Paleo Diet and how it can greatly improve body composition, health, and (best of all) performance.

Welcome and good luck!

Yup. I work out at Elite Athletic Development (WFS) over in Arlington Heights. It's right not even a mile off of Dundee and I-53. There are classes at 6am, 9am, and 7pm. My wife and I are at the 7pm class 3-on, 1-off. We've got a really great group of regulars there and it's been growing!!

Maybe I'll see you there!
