Hi there!! :) My Intro

Hello Crossfit community.

My name is Corey and I started crossfit a few months ago.

My goals are increased flexibility, increased strength and fat loss.

I started eating paleo the same time I started Crossfit. This is after being a vegetarian for 5 years.

Curious: How did your body react to eating meat again after not having eaten it for 5 years? Was it hard to get back into the texture of meat, etc? I ask, not because I'm a vegetarian, but I wonder these things

I started slow and for the first couple weeks eased myself back into it. One of my coaches, JJ Krupka, helped me transition back into it. My GI track rebeled a bit the first week(take that for what you will), but I got back into it pretty quickly.

One thing I hated about being a vegetarian was the texture of meat substitutes. I ate A LOT of beans to avoid eating tofu, seitan, etc. Going back to eating meat on that aspect was easy.

For me the pychological part was the toughest.

Re: Hi there!! :) My Intro

1st
i just watched the movie "Up" and my brain read the title to the thread in Dug's voice, so yeah...

2nd
glad to hear you are eating meat again
1 because its delicious
and 2 because IMO its absolutely essential to Crossfit. meat had loads of protein, as well as creatine in it.
Protein acts as repair materials that your body can use to repair itself after any kind of damage, including the healthy breakdown of muscle that occurs from working out. Since Crossfit definitely breaks the muscles down in ways normal workouts wont, its very important that you have lots of protein available.
creatine is also part of the phosphagen energy system which we use a lot in Crossfit. the real short term all out burst stuff...

3 you will definitely meet your goals with Crossfit.
Good luck, and be sure to cruise around the message boards, there is much to be learned here

I was Veg for 2 years and I slowly reintroduced meat. I had a friend that one day just decided to eat meat again after 4 years and had a hamburger and 5 or 6 chicken wings and was sick as a dog.

My coach also said there might be a risk to the kidneys just going hog wild(excuse the pun) back to meat again.
