Greetings! Todays WOD!!!! I can't wait! Took a look at all the exercises and I got it. But Double Unders? I couldn't see the video that well. Are they just 50 jump ropes???

Ok here is what a double under is:

Same thing as usual jump rope, however each time you jump you spin the rope around twice before you touch the ground.

Hope that helped :-)

I highly recommend 10:1 single:double unders, if you cannot double under (yet).

If you can breeze through 500 single unders then its time to raise the bar.

I've read before that suitable substitutions for DUs might be 3:1 single unders, or 10:1, or tuck jumps. I know that for my first miserable attempts at DUs, a tuck jump was pretty similar. But I must say that once you get the hang of DUs, it's much more technique than exertion. I can bang out 20 DUs in a row easy, but 20 tuck jumps would have me wheezing. I'm now of the opinioin that the only solution is to learn the DU. It took me a few weeks of regular practice in the warmup. If you feel you must sub something into a workout, it really doesn't matter what you use because it will either be too much (e.g. 1:1 tuck jumps) or too different (single unders).

We recently did a competition at Petranek Fitness (CrossFit Los Angeles) to see who could do the most double unders in 10 minutes -- we first had everyone do an attempt at it to get a benchmark, then 8 weeks later had everyone do it again to see who improved.

The winner of the competition was determined both by improvement and overall high score. The winner did 662!!!

662??? I thought I was going to die after 50 tonight. Of course the 150 we did the other day to sub for the running during Michael didnt help either.
