Lumbar (lower back) strain - ugh

Hey all, the WOD the other day was going really well, until I was at the very end. The last rep, last set, i was almost all the way up when i feel a 'pop' kinda like when someone pops your back for you, except that it hurt really bad. I went to the Dr to make sure I didn't do severe damage and got some Vicodin and muscle relaxer to take before bed. Anyway...

This is my first real back pain, and it's NOT fun. I'm sure some of you, unfortunately, have some experience with this. Doc said it may take 10 days to SIX WEEKS to feel better! Anyone have similar happen?

It's actually depressing b/c I want to do my WOD every day, not lay on a heat pad and take pills

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear about your back pain...

Something like that happened to me a couple of years ago. I was putting down dumbbells---and they weren't even heavy---and my back popped. Intense pain, absolutely stuck immobile, couldn't even hobble for a few minutes.

I had no foot drop or other signs of motor weakness, just back and sciatic pain, so I went for acupuncture. First time, ever. Had two treatments, one day apart, and after the second treatment, got up off the table pain-free. Danced at my sons' joint Bar Mitzvah that weekend.

If you do develop any foot drop or weakness, do see an orthopedic or neurosurgeon. Otherwise, rest with activity as tolerated, ice/heat/, anti-inflammatories, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture....

Hope you are fully recovered FAST.

Susie

Sorry to hear about your injury. Ice that baby down, do some light stretching, and just take it easy for a while. Drink a lot of water.

If you pursue a more active form of healing, by actice I mean any other therapy besides medicine, ie: massage, chiropractic, PT, etc... your heal time will be much faster

Re: Lumbar (lower back) strain - ugh

thanks for the feedback, both of you

I'm doing some PT, self-massage with a tennis ball against the wall, and trying to keep from staying in one position for too long so as to prevent getting too stiff. Stretching is really quite painful still, so I am taking it easy there.

I will take the dog for a nice walk this evening, we both need it!

Thanks again,
