Strength Vs. Scoliosis Log

Hey Everyone,
My name is Eric and have been crossfitting for about 3 years. One might ask what the title of this log is for? You guessed it, I am 23 years old and have struggled with scoliosis (55 degree curvature) my whole life. However, through much hard work and determination, I have not let it determine my fitness level, EVER. I played football and ran track in high school and was an All-State free safety. Although my Orthopedic specialist was adamant that I have surgery, (after wearing a brace for 6 years for 23 hours a day) I was determined to hold out. I had lifted throughout high school for football and track and determined that muscle is the best treatment and brace one can obtain. I do not go without some discomfort but thanks to a religious routine I have been able to stay healthy and fit. I love crossfit because there are so many of us that have slight to severe disabilities, yet we as a community do not let it keep us from obtaining our physical goals. As a source of inspiration, I hope that there will be others who will post some WOD's and view mine as well. Together we can continue to motivate each other on our good and bad days!

Re: Strength Vs. Scoliosis Log

Man was it hot today at the facility we trained at! I'm willing to bet it was tickling 95 and the humidity was rediculous. However, I decided to go with the WOD and suck it up.

95 pound thrusters: 100 reps
Time: 9:25

Then once the legs felt like jello I did some burpee work due to my poor performance in the previous days wod (it was 15 CTB pullups, 20 burpees and 15 SDHP 3 rounds for time) time was 9:??.
Anyways...
Burpees 11 reps
Bear Crawl 30 feet
3 rounds 30 seconds of rest

3 min of rest

2 rounds of:
11 toes to bar
11 burpees

Walked weird for about a half a mile with one of my good friends from The Shed O' Pain blog, Tim B. He had a great Wod today.

Re: Strength Vs. Scoliosis Log

Wow! Today was brutal, in a great way. I was sore as all get out after all those thrusters yesterday, so I ran to get loose for 10 minutes and went through a quicker paced warm up

Warm up
2 rounds:
10 strict pullups
10 dips
10 air squats
10 situps
1o good mornings
shoulder stretch/ lat raises

WOD:
5 rounds for time:

15 Knee to Elbows
15 Hip Extensions
15 meters of handstand walks
15 24 inch box jumps

time was 16:23
Ripped through it pretty well, the box jumps were very humbling

Full body stretch routine:
20 second holds
walked 400 yards

weight today: 184

Tomorrow we (as in Tim B. and I) are doing a rogue workout from a couple days ago. It's going to be a hum dinger!

Things I need to work at before the open:
Ring dips
handstand walks
Butterfly PU's
Rowing for high compacity

Re: Strength Vs. Scoliosis Log

Today was phenomenal, Tim Babcock came over and we worked out at the school field house. It was slightly muggy and decided to start raining mid workout for a couple minutes. Still excessively sore from Tuesday's legwork for some reason. I want to get Hellen in ASAP but not until my legs are fully recovered, going to shoot for a sub 8:30. Tim's said he wants a sub 9 and I'll be damned if he won't get it, the guy is in great shape.
Anyways,

WOD
“Old Rogue”
20 minute AMRAP
Max Push-ups
200m run
*max push-ups = to failure, any pause or stop in movement= failure. Once you fail, score your set and take off on 200m run
SCORE= total pushups

My Leg soreness actually helped me, I was forced to slow down my 200's which
Allowed me to increase my push up capacity.

Finished with 314 pushups
Started with a 50 pushup round and went between 30 and 25 pushups per round.

Tim and I ten went in and worked some butterfly Pullups, which I am starting to get down.

Did a few MU's for tim and he helped me with my handstand pushup kips.

Great day!

Re: Strength Vs. Scoliosis Log

No Wod today, my fiance is forcing me to go to a football game tonight and be social. I'm slightly bummed but will be working out with my brother who has recently got back on the saddle of crossfitting tomorrow. Along with being a state trooper, he is in great shape and our workouts seem to always turn into unspoken competitions (friendly of course ).

Today: 20 minutes of Yoga with my fiance.

Re: Strength Vs. Scoliosis Log

Had kind of a so-so workout today. I did not end up working out with my brother, who bailed on me for his female friend. However, I ended up going and getting a wod in uninspired fashion. It's just harder to get up for workouts by yourself. Anyways...

Eight rounds for max reps of:
115 pound Hang power clean, 20 seconds
Rest 10 seconds
115 pound Push press, 20 seconds
Rest 10 seconds

Hang cleans: 10-8-8-7-8-8-7-8
Push press: 9-7-8-7-6-6-6-6

Not very impressed.

3 min rest.

3 rounds with 30 second breaks in between

10 butterfly pullups
20 double unders
12 burpees

Need to be better/work harder if I want to do well in the open.

Re: Strength Vs. Scoliosis Log

Had a pretty decent wod today, it wasn't to hot out and the soreness in my legs had subsided and I was rearing to go. Ended up going with my brother, he did the workout I did yesterday and tore it up.

My WOD:

"Helen"

Three rounds for time:
-Run 400 meters
-1 1/2 pood Kettlebell X 21 swings (or 55 pound dumbbell swing)
-2 Pull-ups

Time was 8:43

Not to bad, but not where I want to be. Those 400 meter runs really beat me up, everything was unbroken.

3 min Rest:
Skills

3 rounds of:
-10 Strict Handstand Pushups with Paralette bars.

1 min rest

3 rounds:
-20 Knee to elbows
-20 Double Unders

Finished with some much needed grip work.

Things I need to work on this week:
Grip Strength/stanima
Kipping Hanstand push ups
Running for compacity
Heavy OLY Lifts
Ring work
