Questions about Concept 2 rowers?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to CrossFit and have a few questios about the Concept 2 rower.

What should I be looking for in a used model, in terms of condition, wear and tear, etc.? Are these things strong and sturdy enough that anything well taken care of will last forever, just about? I am looking at a B model right now. Would $300 - $350 be a decent price for something in "very good condition"?

Mike - I'm the same boat, if you'll pardon the pun, as I am hunting for a couple more machines. I just posted a message about this as I am wondering if I should get a D model or for about the same money 3 c models. You can find, if you are patient, C models for around $300 and even less than that. I'd hold on and wait for a C model. When you get it replace the monitor with the PM2 and replace the straight wooden handle with the angled blue plastic one...much better. The jury will be out for awhile as to whether or not they will last forever...but they will last a very, very long time with minimal care. A cursory glance will tell you if the erg has been cared for, stored indoors, oiled and kept clean.

Hang on a bit and find a C model.

Thanks Eugene. That's the info I was looking for. The Concept 2B I found is 3 hours away so it was not really a deal when I factor in gas money in my truck.

I already have running shoes - LOL - so I will just run and maybe find a way to do some light upper body exercises everytime rowing is in WOD. I have a cheapy Airdyne-type bike so that will work for now.

I'd definately go for the model C's if you can get 3 for the price of one D.

By the way, do you still like your Vibrams? I bought my dad a pair for his birthday. He won't run in them but will maybe wear them on his sailboat.

What's the difference between a B and a C? I just found a B in my vicinity for $200 OBO. Seems like a good deal and in my range. I could upgrade it to a PM2 and a handle for $140 more.

Advice? Is this a good deal? The guy said he bought it in '92.

$200.00 for a B, IMO is a good deal. Like Eugene said, you can tell by its condition if it has been taken care of. There was one in Kent, yesterday, on Seattle-Craigs list for $200.00. I have a B that I got on Craigs list for $50.00 and it was in 'new' condition. I would pay up to $300.00 to $400.00 for a B in good condition.
