Is there a best type of magnesium to buy or is it all the same?

Re: Magnesium supplement s?

ZMA is good because it also includes zinc and B-6.

From here (WFS):

Zinc/Magnesium

As mentioned previously, both zinc and magnesium are often deficient in athletes; zinc is often low in athletes who forego red meat and magnesium losses increase with heavy training. Both are critical for optimal performance and various processes important to athletes. As well, many find that the combination of the two taken at bedtime helps with sleep, a process critical to overall recovery.

On average, a daily supplement of 25 mg of zinc (any form is basically fine) with 400-500 mg of magnesium (citrate is the preferred form) taken 30 minutes before bedtime helps many go to sleep. While many commercial zinc/magnesium products contain B-6, this seems to hurt sleep for some people and I suggest buying the ingredients separately if they are taken. Id note that magnesium oxide, which is the most commonly found form of magnesium is poorly absorbed, as noted above citrate is the preferred form.

I second this.

Helps with recovery a good deal too. There are some good brands out there that are geared towards this and that's what my wife and I use when training hard and we need more recovery.

I need more and more the older I get. Recover that is haha

Re: Magnesium supplement s?

I'm thinking of getting some ZMA, but getting it from the doctor as Zinc, Magnesium, and vit B complex, as individual tabs as it will be cheaper. Do you think that it would do the same thing???

Re: Magnesium supplement s?

It all depends on the costs of things out where you are.

A bottle of ZMA around here online costs 15-18 bucks plus shipping so it's pretty inexpensive.

I've got a horrible health plan so I would assume IF my Dr gave me those caps it would cost me my left testicle. haha

I would put the money in on a combined product from a company in my opinion. At least you can then find a company who has done research and testing etc etc..

No it would the opposite. - cost more.
Cost of office visit. Script, markup at chemist. It doesn't make sense to do that when you can order it online.

I have to go to the Doc every month anyways to get my script for something that I take, and most drugs in NZ are at least partially funded by our government.

Even paying full price here I have worked out that it is a little cheaper than buying what I can get here from company. Importing it has a lot of issues because supplements are very tightly controlled here.

I liked the brand from T-nation. The GNC stuff smells like feces.
