Getting Fran Wet...

Ok, I have been doing CrossFit almost daily since January and thought it would be nice to introduce it to my fellow co-workers. I am a lifeguard at a local pool, so naturally, most of the employees hit the gym regularly.

I brought my oly bar with 30lbs of weight (75lbs total if you cant add) and my rings. Rings were hung from the upper balcony over the office. Bar was places at the opposite end of the pool. After much arguing over how many reps (I wanted to do a 21-15-9. The normal Fran rep) I agreed to go with 12-6-3 for the new guys. I guess it'd just be over quick. Here's how it looked:

For time:

12 thrusters
Swim 25m
12 ring pullups
Swim 25m
6 thrusters
Swim 25m
6 ring pullups
Swim 25m
3 thrusters
Swim 25m
3 ring pullups

I got 2 volunteers for this one: Nathan (17, 5'9", 140#) and George (16, 6'0", 190#)

Nathan went first and finished in 8:02
George went second and got 5:15
I went last and finished fastest with a 5:01

After catching my breath, I tried deciding on a name for this workout. So, without further introduction, I give you:

Wet Fran!

Re: Getting Fran Wet...

You're too nice...should have made them do it as RX'd. I'd like to know how the shoulders felt during the swim after the thrusters. I would suggest one more swim (either at the beginning or end) to make it all even: 3 x (Swim/Thruster/Swim/Pullups). Or you could also sub in a 50 in there and do 3 x (Thruster/Pullups/50 Swim). Or following the pattern in Fran: 21 Thursters, 21 Pullups, 75 Swim, 15 Thrusters, 15 Pullups, 50 Swim, 9 Thrusters, 9 Pullups, 25 Swim. That is the beauty in this, there is a lot of freedom in making up your own workouts and little changes like this can work your body just a little different.

Sounds like a fun workout. Wish I had the opportunity to include swimming in that type of workout.

Pretty impressive times. Especially from the non CrossFitters...

I agree with Mark. RX'd weights and reps with descending swim distances.

Wet Fran sounds too quaint for a monster of a WOD like that.... what else can we call it that's still appropriate for this board?

Sounds like a monster WOD. I love swimming but don't have access to a pool regularly. I also don't know any local pools that would allow me to bring any weights near the pool.

Possible names:
Drowning Fran
Hurricane Fran
Amphibious Fran

I think I kind of like the in and out of the pool aspects of the name Amphibious Fran.
