Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Question.

I'm in the transition of switching gyms. Any ideas on whether I should sign up with my old team or the new team?

you don't have a choice.
you belong with the team where you do the majority of your workouts.

Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

They only care about the gym residency thing to keep people from coming together to make an All Star Team. If you aren't going to be contributing in the top 3 men's scores at all, will not be on a regionals team, and are just doing this for fun, then sign up with whatever gym's team you will be doing the workouts with. (Because your scores give no advantage to the team)

If you are on the more elite end of the spectrum, and will be contributing top 3 scores, then you have no choice but to stick with the gym you have trained at the majority of your training since Jan. 1 per the rulebook.

Or. You could just follow the rules. Why is that so hard?

No. None of them need videos unless any of them are top 60 in the region as individuals.
Where is it specified on the rule book that "If you make regional as a team but no one on the team has an individaul score above 60, you don't need to have anything recorded"?

We are unclear if we should videotape all our top tier athletes for all workout just in case anyone of them make top 3 male and top 3 female in contributing to our scores. Once we qualify for regional....then, will CF Games randomly ask for a video of any of those top 3 male and 3 female scores of any of the 5 events????

I emailed CrossFit and asked:

I had a question about the rule for videotaping during the Open. We likely don't have anyone at our gym that will finish in the top 60 but we have a very good chance of sending a team to Regionals. If none of our top three men or women are in the top 60 of the region, but they finish well enough to send a team to Regionals, do they have to submit a videotape of any of their WODs?

Their response:

Thank you for contacting the CrossFit Games Support team. Only athletes who have a chance of making Top-60 in their region need to use a registered Judge and video their workouts. Athletes on teams or in Masters divisions who finish outside the Top-60 in the Individual division will not need to submit Open videos upon request.

More details for the video requirements will be released soon. Keep checking back at the Games site for updates.

We look forward to having you be a part of this season!

In case you missed it:

If media is like last year, there will be an announcement workout video each week, and a Games Update Show each week.

Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Grace -
This is from the official rulebook:

Quote:
Furthermore, any Athlete who thinks they may qualify for Regionals shall have all of their Open workouts videotaped and kept on file. At least one video will be reviewed by CrossFit Games staff prior to sending out Regional invitations.
This is for individual athletes. If you think you've got an athlete who might be in the top 60, you may want to video their workouts, and make sure your video meets the requirements (stopwatch clock visible, etc.). Or you can choose not to video anything, and wait for CrossFit HQ to request a specific workout. The athlete can then repeat only that workout (with at least as good a score as was originally submitted, I expect), and submit that video by the video submission deadline.

Here is additional information from the rulebook:
Quote:
At the end of the Open, the top 60 men and top 60 women in each Region will be required to submit a complete video of one of the Open Events. This Event will be selected by CrossFit, Inc. after the close of final Open event. The required video will be verified by CrossFit Games staff prior to sending out Regional invitations for individuals and Teams.

i. The selected Athletes will have one week to submit their video. The video may be the original video captured during the Open, or the Athlete may repeat the designated workout and submit video of this performance. In either case, the video submission deadline must be met. All video submissions must adhere to the requirements listed in Section 7.d-e. Specific submission guidelines will be clearly communicated to the designated Athletes via e-mail.

ii. Submitted videos will be reviewed by Regional Directors and Competition Directors. They will review the video and either validate or invalidate the submission. The Directors will have one week to review video submissions and make their determination. Only after the Directors have ruled on these videos will the final Leaderboard standings be set.

iii. The video must be validated for the Athlete to receive an invitation for Regionals.

iv. If a video is invalidated, the individual Athlete’s overall placement on the Leaderboard will be adjusted to reflect the removal of their score for that workout. The Athlete’s score for this workout will also not contribute to their Team’s score in this Event, resulting in a recalculation of that Team’s final placement on the Leaderboard. (Note: If this Athlete is a member of a Team ranked in the top 35 on the Leaderboard, validation of this video submission will be required for that Team to receive an invitation to Regionals).

l. At the end of this week-long video review period, the final Leaderboard standings will be determined. The top 48 men, top 48 women and top 30 Teams in each Region will be invited to compete in their respective Regional competition.
