Clean and Jerks

Yesterday my box's programmed WOD was 10 minutes to find your 1RM Clean and Jerk. I noticed as I was going through this that invariably I split jerk with my right foot forward and my left behind. Upon reflection, I realized I don't think my left foot has ever been the front leg on a split jerk.

Should I be changing it up so that I alternate which leg is forward on split jerks or is it okay to always use the same leg split?

It doesn't matter. Everyone has a chocolate foot, and if it's your natural tendency to split that way you will put up more weight, which is the whole point.

Re: Clean and Jerks

Interestingly, if that's a word, Coach B. told everyone to "take a knee" at the Oly Lifting cert. Once we had taken a knee he said, "The way you are now is the way you should split because you unconsciously put that foot forward". I paraphrased a bit but that was the gist of it. I'd say you're totally fine. Try to do a split snatch now. I can actually put up more weight on a snatch doing it split style than squat style. Just something to play with.

Re: Clean and Jerks

This is a lot like snowboarding/skateboarding with whatever foot forward that "feels right".

You are what we call "goofy footed".

I blame you. I just read a necro-post that was talking about people getting Crossfit tattoos. If my blood pressure goes up, I'm coming to NC...

Re: Clean and Jerks

when i was in HS i could execute a clean properly. Now that i have started crossfit years later i notice its hard to get my elbows to point up(due to the size of my biceps) when i snap under the bar. I aint expecting this to be painless but is it considered bad form if my elbows dont point up or is it ok if they dont point as high?
