Be Careful On The Milk You Drink

If you are not drinking organic you might want to watch these to videos to help you make your choice.

Video 1
Video 2

Both are WFS

I have relatives that continue to send me links on why milk is bad and no noe should be drinking it. I have to drink Lactaid myself.

Re: Be Careful On The Milk You Drink

I personally hate drinking the stuff because I know it's so processed, but I drink whole milk anyway nowadays while on SS...
A few side effects I've noted:
-Increased acne (possible the most annoying - invulnerable pimples)
-Increased mucus production (just kinda gross)

But I'm going up on my squat every workout, so I live with it. Definitely out of my diet when this is over, though.

Just a thought, in the first video, he references cholesterol. I believe it is a sentiment among many that cholesterol in the diet has not been effectively linked to CHD or cholesterol in the blood... And he also talks about early puberty, which I think there was a discussion a while ago about milk+early puberty(for girls), and it was commented that milk being the cause of this was unlikely....

Doug thanks for the vid links. The first one was interesting. The second one smacked too much of angry former employees. Good stuff either way.

Re: Be Careful On The Milk You Drink

Seems more like arguments against rBST and BGH than anything. Organic milk is a step in the right direction.

Out of curiosity, why do so many people advocate raw milk around here? I understand the nutritional benefits it may have, but isn't pasteurization necessary to kill certain bacteria that can often come with it? I'm sure the pasteurization also has some other detrimental effects, but it seems like the P/C/F ratio are all still there, without any of the extra unhealthy hormones, additives, etc. Just super-heated and pasteurized to remove other nonsense as well.

Seems like pasteurized organic milk would be devoid of all the bad stuff, maybe lacking some of the good stuff, but ultimately the best compromise. Still processed, but not necessarily artificially altered.

I drink organic 2% usually just because it's easier to find. Have never tried raw, but maybe I will one of these days (if I can find a decent supplier) if someone can explain the whole problem with pasteurization.

Per Omnivore's Dilemma, and I'm going from memory, BIG business decided that they want to cut expenses of daily delivery, extend shelf life, ship milk farther, so Marketing people along with bogus science started the, must pasturize milk to make it safe.

Elliot, have you read that book, or Real Food: What to Eat and Why , or The Revolution Will Not Be Microwaved. BTW, link below was a quick Google search on topic:

Re: Be Careful On The Milk You Drink

Are there any independent sources of information out there regarding these studies/facts/allegations about milk? I'm not so much questioning the veracity of the aforementioned sources as seeking other, independent studies that tend to demonstrate similar results.
