Side pain (oblique??) - please help

Yesterday I did quite possibly one of the hardest workouts I have done in many months. It consisted of heaps of kettlebell swings, lots of sets of 500m rows and also twisting deadlifts. I felt tight around my core afterwards but not injured.

Today, all of a sudden I felt a pain in my left hand side and throughout the day it has gotten a little worse (well stiffer). It is a little like a back strain in that any general movement causes discomfort and occasionally it feels like my obliques and abs (on left hand side) are spasming slightly.

Has anyone any idea of what I have done? Experiences? Advice?

Replies will be very gratefully received.

Thank you in advance

Re: Side pain (oblique??) - please help

Sounds as though they may indeed be simply in spasm. The best advice I can give you is go get a massage to have them released and they can check for trigger points referring pain. At the same time the therapist will be able to tell if there is any damage which the muscles are "splinting" (hopefully and probably not).

I'm a sports massage therapist and this happens from time to time with various types of athletes and its quite easy and quick to deal with.
