Smile First Handstand push-up on the RINGS

I just got a pair of rings two weeks ago and Ive been having alot of fun on them. Friday I was able knock out two handstand push-ups, I cant believe how hard it is to push your own body weight like that WOW. I just need to hit the MU and I'll be happy camper.

lol, got a rings HSPU and don't have a muscle up? Might be a first.

Shoot for the freestanding HSPUs too.

Ive always been good at Handstands and I thought for sure I could MU a good 10 or so but to my surprize I couldnt get a single one. I can knock out a good 15-20 pullups and about the same on dips but I cant seem to MU just yet.

Re: First Handstand push-up on the RINGS

That is wild. I never knew anybody that could do a hspu on rings, that hadn't spent their childhood in gymnastics, whereupon one would develop the muscle up first.

I redeveloped my muscle up from having lost it. Now Crossfit asks for it and I had to re-learn it.

I worked support and dip down and slow transition from there to the top of the pull up. Repetition, repetition, you know. You can accomplish the same exercise on a bar. Support, dip, transition as slowly as possible to a chin hang. Jump to support and go again.

I also work it the other way, with a block high enough to give a constant tapping with my feet, behind me, to help me through the transition from below to above. My constant tapping keeps me from using my legs more than necessary.

In re-development of this skill, I refused to kip them, but, now, in trying to score reps in a set, I will kip, when necessary.

We can all do a dip, and we can all do a pull up. The only thing hard about a MU is the transition. That should be your focus.

GO CROSSFIT!

Re: First Handstand push-up on the RINGS

I did do alot of gymnastics as a kid along with martial arts and then spent time in the army where I did alot of opstacle course training and I really thought the MU wouldnt be a problem for me but then again I have a bad shoulder that might be messing with me or its just mental and I need to get that first one and I'll be fine.

Either way I wont stop until I get it, Thanks for all the words of wisdom guys and I'll post the video when I get it.
