i sometimes have the same issue. my lower back doesn't hurt at all, but when i jump on the GHD, bam, a shooting pain. i tried stretching it out, but in the end, i usually just skip it that day. one thing i recently found was mobilitywod.com. i now use a lacrosse ball or baseball to work out the kinks in my back...have had a significant improvement in my lower back since.
