WOD: Karen

So I did Karen today, as Rx'd: 9:39.

I was really feeling it in my lower back by the time I finished. Is this normal? I was focused on driving through my heels, keeping lumbar curve, etc. Usually if I am coming off my heels I will feel it in my calves.

Am I losing lumbar????

Re: WOD: Karen

Most likely. If you're holding the ball out in front you're more likely to pitch forward, and with the high-rep high-speed pace of this WOD it's easy to lose track of your form. If you have tight hamstrings they will pull your butt under and compromise your lumbar even more.

I hate wall balls.

Re: WOD: Karen

If you can keep your hip flexors and lower back tight, you'll practically bounce back up out of the bottom from your squats. Even if you're arching your back and pushing with your heels you might be bent over more than you should be.

I think I was holding the ball too far out front, not tight enough to the body. 20lb medicine ball gets friggin heavy after awhile!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: WOD: Karen

I notice that if I lose my form on wall balls I get that back pain as well. Like mentioned above, letting the ball get too far away from the body will do it every time.

Re: WOD: Karen

The key is to have the ball resting on your chest somewhat. If you're holding it like a baby or like you're going to do a basketball pass you'll be in trouble. It's like doing a front squat.

Re: WOD: Karen

Did Karen in 8:05 yesterday.
Even after a good warmup/cooldown the DOMS is killing me today.
Was going to go for a hike with the kids but I can hardley walk up the stairs.
I Love/Hate this stuff
