I'm wondering if there are many folks who use
Crossfit methods and means (weight lifting,
gymnastics and cardio) but who make up their own
daily routines instead of following each day's
WOD?

I'm doing that very thing at the moment, due to equipment and time restrictions.

Yesterday:
Run 200m
Hang clean-n-press: 135x5 reps
Reverse grip bench: 135x5 reps
(rest 1 min)

Lather, rinse, repeat 3-5 times.

HTH,

Scott

James- I personally add and delete items here and there in the WOD but I have found it is incredibly complete when taken on the time scale of a month or year. I have simply not found anything akin to it. and really enjoy not having to plan and think about it anymore.
The name of the game is randomization and adaptation. if you ventrue out on your own experiments track down the articles on "timecourse of training adaptations" and any other links Coach has posted. It is an understanding of these processes along with the ten determinants of fitness which drive the crossfit philosophy. use these as your guide and you should have good success.
