You need to work on both at the same time pretty much...

Everything at once is better than single things at a time.... unless multiple things at once is interfering with form/technique/etc. for example

I was just told by a PT I saw today that my gluteus medius was weaker than some of the six year olds she has seen.

Hip thrusts also make my knees feel really tight, to the outside of the patella. What does this indicate?

Also, it was free. She did agree that it looked like my patella was kind off to the side, which is something I thought but couldn't get the last PT to see.

Possibly internally rotated femurs, tight TFL, weak glut med (which you know). Weak low back, inhibited glutes ... lots of possibilities.

See a qualified specialist such as a PT, chiropractor or an excellent ATC.
