Re: Why are Affiliate gym memberships so $$$?

At our local gym it is 150$ /m and I consider this very cheap for how much you learn. MUCH cheaper then a personal trainer by hundreds of dollars.

Re: Why are Affiliate gym memberships so $$$?

For us here at our affiliate, it is $150 for 3x/wk or $175 for unlimited. Local gyms are about half that, but there is ZERO coaching. You walk in. You do your workout in silence. You leave. At the affiliate, I get someone there critiquing my form on every rep, especially since I'm new. There is always enough equipment and space for me to do my workout at my pace. And I get the motivation of watching other women who don't all exactly look like gym rats grunting and sweating with me. The women who look like me at the corporate gyms rarely break a sweat. There is a reason why they look like me. And there is a reason why I won't look like this for long. >:-)

Re: Why are Affiliate gym memberships so $$$?

i haven't read all of this thread as it's seven pages long, plus my affiliate in perth is a bit different. but modern, "trendy" gyms, make their money by getting the people that tell themselves they're going to get fit but then never show up. crossfit, however, i would wager that 90% of the members are there most of the week

Re: Why are Affiliate gym memberships so $$$?

To be seriouslly capitalist, Affiliate prices are what they are because thats what the market will bare. If people weren't willing to pay that price, they would have to lower it. As you decrease price, you increase customers. If the affiliate is at maximum capacity at 150 per month, why should they lower it? If they need more members, then the price might drop or there will be other scheduling options.

Wealth of Nations anyone?

Re: Why are Affiliate gym memberships so $$$?

When I was first looking I tried to find an affiliate gym. They wanted $195 a month. I thought that was rediculous. So I looked out and I found someone that is willing to train me that is new and just got certified for a better deal. I understand where you are coming from. I was also suprised that there was nothing reasonable near my home.

Re: Why are Affiliate gym memberships so $$$?

Hey Dave I am kindof understanding now that Gus explained it in more detail. Globo is more of a high volume hope they dont show up. CrossFit is more of a low volume get them in there and show results so everyone asks what the heck are you doing - where can I join type place.
Okay, explain it one more time.
Why do people charge so much money at them there CrossFit Gyms???

Steve . . . sarcasm (which is what I think that was) doesn't translate well to print without voice inflections.

And, for what it's worth, I'm willing to assume Gus meant well, even when he announced that he was too busy or too important to actually, you know, *read* the 55 posts above his. Plus, he's largely correct. Let it go.

Following the motto of Hyperfit (CrossFit Ann Arbor), I'll do my weeping in silence.
