TENS unit for activating Glutes?

I sit all day for work and have glute amnesia and need to get them firing. I stretch my hip flexors daily and do glute bridges and other glute exercises, but I find that my hamstrings always take over. I need to focus on getting the glutes to fire exclusively. Will a TENS unit help with that??

I am in the same boat. Like to know others advise. I have been looking at youtube videos and focusing on good form deadlifts with lights weight. Also been doing the streches but still feel most of work going to legs.

Check out Foundation Training (wfs: www.foundationtraining.com). Simple exercises that helped me to turn on my glutes. I've been doing them daily and as part of my warmup.

Who fed you the line about 'Glute Amnesia'? A physical therapist? Like your muscle got hit over the head and forgot who it was? And now it thinks it's a duck?

You want your muscles working together as a system, not separately. Your glutes alone don't get you out of that chair that you sit in all day, and we don't want to train them as if they do.

Load up a barbell and start squatting (watch some of the back squat videos on the main site by Mark Rippetoe if you need help, particularly the 'hip drive' one), and as you put more weight on and get stronger, your glutes will stop thinking they're a duck and realize that they're a muscle that doesn't have a brain and can't remember anything long term anyway, because they're a little occupied in the short term with pushing all this damn weight back up right now. Stop doing 'exercises' and start lifting.

Back extensions and/or Glute-ham raises help too.

Re: TENS unit for activating Glutes?

My glutes do all the work... Their rock hard and simply their presence causes the bar to move up on its own

I agree with Matt and Blair. Just squat. Your glutes will work on their own. Some good form will help it (hips back, screwing heels into ground, knees out).

When I was in my prime doing 500+ at 165-170lb body weight I never focused on building my glutes. I simply squatted 2-3x a week.

Good luck and squat more
