Is this price for oly lifting coaching reasonable?

I inquired with an olympic lifting coach near my home and received this response, partially copied below:

"Initial session here is 2 hours. Assess where you are as to flexibility and positions for doing the lifts correctly, go through step by step learning progressions for both lifts while filming for instant playback. Cost is 150 dollars, and can be scheduled pretty much any day or time.

Second is hours also, review first session with filming and progress to bigger weight as appropriate, in the lifts and squats and pulls. Also can discus then your programming needs based on what we see as strong and weaker points. Cost session 2 is 100 dollars."

The sessions would be 1-on-1 and the coach was the 2003 masters world champion, FWIW.

I know the decision is up to me in the end, but I just wanted to know if $250 for 2 2-hour sessions was normal pricing.

I'm not going to say that's insane, but it's more than I would pay. Maybe I just had a better opportunity though.

If you proceed forward how much would a normal class once or twice a week be like? Maybe he is just trying to scare people off with the first session or 2?

That's just over $60 per hour, right in the ballpark of what other kinds of personal training cost.

Yep, I charge $75 for 1 hour PT sessions. For something closer to elite coaching like oly lifting, I would DEFINITELY say it's worth it.

The oly coach I've been looking at here charges 75$ an hour for 1on1.

Doesn't seem that high to me. Cheaper than 1-on-1 sessions at most globo's with their (usually) poorly trained trainers.

Think of it like this:

Good instruction in the basics of solid technique not only get you better and stronger, they result in your being less likely to injure yourself doing something that could have been avoided.

That should be worth a few bucks.

I'm a 2002 Worldmaster'smGames Champion and a 22yr oly vet. I've been charging way to little!

Re: Is this price for oly lifting coaching reasonable?

Thanks for all the advice. The fact that the price is similar to globo "personal training" and the injury prevention arguments had occurred to me.

I just realized, however, that where I'm moving in early September (Palo Alto, CA) is 20 mins from the Catalyst Athletics gym. Might just go to some of their group classes for oly lifting at $15/class...
