CF and Pregnacy

Okay Ladies, I am newly pregnant and we are very excited. Here is the deal. I have been physically active my entire life and being stationary will kill me. Has anyone been able to continue CF while pregnant. My Doc has already told me that I should be okay, but I want to know from your experience.

Thank you!
Jenn

PS I have been CFing for over a year....

Re: CF and Pregnacy

You'll have to make adjustments... avoid impact, but quite a lot can still be done. Have you seen Annie's 25 pullups while 7 months pregnant video? Needless to say this is not from first hand experience :-)...

Re: CF and Pregnacy

Somewhere in the videos is a clip of Annie banging out about 25 kipping pullups while 8 months pregnant. Very impressive!

Anyway, obviously I don't have first-hand experience, but I think you'll find most people will say since you've always been active and your body is used to CF you should have no problems... just listen to your body and modify workouts and/or take extra rest as needed. Obviously certain things like 1RM efforts will have to wait also. Good luck!

Re: CF and Pregnacy

Jennifer, (hopefully) attached is Carla Mac's article on CF'ing while pregnant. The formatting was weird going from Word to Text but I tried to get everything on one page so you don't have to scroll but if I missed a line or two you'll have to forgive me. If you can find Carla's contact info I'm sure she'd discuss how she did it in detail.

Congrats and you're training for two now, so get some, go again, and then go again!

Re: CF and Pregnacy

Hey Jennifer, congratulations!

My wife got into CrossFit while she was pregnant, and did very well with it - she was training right till the week she gave birth.

We kind of had fun with it. One day I strapped on 30 lbs of medicine balls to simulate being pregnant, and I did her workout with her. Needless to say, I got my butt kicked by a pregnant woman. Carrying all that weight in front of you is HARD! Even doing basic things like squats becomes a real challenge.

Anyway, you can laugh at me getting schooled by my wife on this video... http://youtube.com/watch?v=VubRuIEF0QA (WFS).

Oh yeah, be sure to check out http://www.xfitmom.com/ (WFS)

And as was mentioned before, you can do most stuff, but avoid anything with a high impact, like box jumps...

Congratulations, and good luck!

Lots of prior threads on this subject . . . just do a search for "pregnant" or "pregnancy" . ..

Biggest issue in pregnancy is the softening of the symphysis pubis and general laxity of joints as pregnancy progresses. There's more info on that in my earlier posts. Congratulations!
