Ice or Heat/Massage?

Pulled something in my left upper trap/neck.

Should I ice it or apply heat and massage?

Kstar on Mobility Wod recently did a thing about not icing, titled, "People we've got to stop icing! We were wrong. Sooo wrong!": LINK WFS

What you're referring to has been discussed plenty on here and other blogs, so I'll skip any commenting on that topic.

For you, you should ice the first 2-3 days after an acute injury. After that, it's a crapshoot. Some get better with ice, others heat. Others do contrast(ice and heat). What you should not do is keep either on for more than 20-30mins, and do not fall asleep with either.

Re: Ice or Heat/Massage?

OK, thanks.

When to massage? 72 hours after injury?

Re: Ice or Heat/Massage?

Probably would depend on the severity of the injury. Either way, keeping motion through the joints, or muscles would be important to speed up healing.
