New to Crossfit (one month), and would like to know if anyone is training for the Firefighter Combat Challenge. This is my 8th year running with a PB of 1'49"

Hey alex. have never specifically trained for it, but have done a few times(3). best time is 2'48". am pretty happy with the sub 3 considering i am 5'9" and 162. my b.c. has a 2'09". will probably try to get to one this year; so many seem to be back east now. am in tucson, arizona with rural-metro fire. your time is great. most importantly, we make a statement to other firefighters that being in shape is an obligation to ourselves and our fellow firefighters. in the end, i prefer the Bataan Memorial Death March to the combat. the combat is most painful thing i've ever done. well, in march am doing the firefighter stairclimb in seattle; it may introduce an other level of pain. will let you know. rock on. dale

Hey Dale,

Good to see another "Challenger" out there. Hopefully, you will make it to the challenge this year. I hope to do 2-3, then Nationals. Like you, I am 5'9", although I am about 10 lbs heavier. BTW, my wife also runs the challenge, and is the current Canadian over-40 champ. Gives one a reason to train when their spouse is screaming in their ear....

Dale,

I don't think I will make it, but you may run across a friend of mine (Roy Davis, retired from Tacoma Fire) in the competition. At 63 years old, his Combat Challenge time is 1'38"! He is an amazing competitor. Anyway, if you see him, say hi. By the way, our department (Ottawa Fire) is hosting a challenge this summer (August 6/7. Little colder than Arizona....

Hey guys, can I buy a clue?

What *is* the Firefighter Combat Challenge? (not that I'm going to do it, but I'm curious).
