Dave, put on 501bs of gear(full bunkers and breathing apparatus)get really edgy in the ready tent while listening to loud rock and roll(great so far?)now bend over(uh oh here it comes!)and, at the bell, swing a 451b hose pack from the ground to your shoulder, go up a five story tower, drop the hose pack(on the top platform), lean over the rail at the top, hoist a 50 1b hose roll hand over hand, drop it(into a box, run down the tower(hitting every stair)and jump onto a metal contraption that contains a 165 1b metal rectangle; beat on this with a 91b sledge hammer until you move it 5 ft; run a serpentine pattern 140 ft, bend over(again?!)pick up a 1 3/4" charged line advance it 70 feet, open the nozzle to hit a guillotine target, place the hose on the ground, run to the 175 1b dummy and drag it 100 ft. finished. oh yeah, on air. alex's time is phenomenal, the Amazing Roy Davis has a 1mn 38 sec time at age 63. at 48 I have a 2mn52sec time. 3 mns is the first barrier(you can take up to 7mns.the solo record is 1mn 19sec. I have engaged in a lot of crazy atheletic events...none so painful as this. again, alex and roy are in the parthenon of the combat gods. if you see the event on espn2, you will see these guys make it look easy. but go to an event and watch people unable to finish, fall, puke...being firefighters i have never seen anyone quit. we WILL die trying.
